COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This 40 hour course is designed to provide instruction in recognized advanced levels of Police Patrol Dog Handler skills. The course is open to all Law Enforcement Patrol Dog Teams from any state or province that are currently accredited with a recognized K-9 organization and have a minimum of one year of experience. The course is limited to ten K-9 teams. Observer positions will be accommodated as room allows. See application and information sheet for a full list of requirements.

Cost for K-9 Teams: $600

Cost for Observers:  Free if your agency has a K-9 team attending, $100 for non-affiliated observers.

You will need to register through this website to hold your place in the class.  To do so, click on ‘Register for this Course’ in the top right hand corner of this course listing.  If you have not attended training at the Spokane Police Academy before, you will need to create an account to complete the registration.   Once you have registered, please complete this application form.

SPD Officers will be issued a Department Shotgun for personal carry, taught how to field strip the weapon and maintain it, shown and tested on manipulations, transitions, patterning and sighting in for slugs.

 This class is required for any SPD Officer wanting to carry a Dept issued Shotgun on Patrol.

Qualifications will take place.

Bring your duty belt and handgun for transition drills.

Positional shooting will take place, as well as shooting on the move and use of cover.

Shooters other than SPD will need:

Pump action only Patrol Shotgun, Remington 870 or Mossberg 500/590 Series with Sling.

50 rounds handgun ammo.

50 rounds slugs

100 rounds tactical buckshot

100 rounds birdshot

We will begin in Classroom 4 at 0900hrs.

1 hour lunch break around 1130hrs (Lunch NOT provided).

 A certificate of completion will be provided for training documentation.

Join us for a day of revolver shooting. drawing from concealed holster if you have it, reloading with your speed strips, up close and fast as well as from distance with accuracy. If you carry in your vest as a back-up, good, we will do that too. Want to work from your pocket with a clip, your man bag or purse, your paddle holster, your ankle holster or THUNDER-BRIEFS, bring it all. This is for commissioned personnel only.
