BASIC MOTORCYCLE OFFICER INSTRUCTOR WORKSHOP

Arrival: Attendees are requested to report on April 24, 2013, at 8:00 am to 5 pm the Life Center Church, 1202 North Government Way, Spokane, WA 99212.
Travel, Lodging and Meals: Travel, meals and lodging will be the responsibility of the attendee or his/her department.
The applicant must be currently assigned as a police motorcycle rider and on an approved motorcycle for use by their agency.
The applicant should have a valid driver’s license with a motorcycle endorsement.
The applicant must have successfully completed a CJTC or equivalent basic motorcycle operator’s course. Applicants from out of state who have attended a course equivalent to that of CJTC may apply for a waiver by submitting their training records and written request to the Master Instructor 30 days prior to the start of the instructor school for approval.
The applicant must possess the riding skills to successfully complete the CJTC proficiency/qualification course.
The applicant must have at least two years of current experience operating a police motorcycle.
The applicant must not have been involved in any preventable collisions during the current two-year period of time as a motorcycle officer/student instructor.
The applicant must have a good driving record.
Costs: There is no cost to attend this school.
Attire: A utility uniform (BDU or 5.11 type cargo pants and shirt) is required for classroom and riding the course. Long-sleeved uniform jacket or jacket labeled with “Police or Sheriff” will be required for off-campus riding exercises.
Required reading: Attendees will need to have a good working knowledge of the basic motorcycle operator student manual, lectures and instruction forms.
Equipment needs: Attendees should bring the following items to class:
A credit card or other means of purchasing fuel/motorcycle maintenance issues.
Quality boots that protect ankles, gloves, eye protection and helmet are required. Full face helmets may be used if they have the ability to open (articulated chin/face protection).
Body armor, duty weapon and belt, flashlight and 50 rounds of ammo.
A law enforcement motorcycle in good condition, 5/32” tire tread depth, be road legal, with brakes, clutch and battery in a condition that will stand up to harsh use.
Note-Taking: Note-taking materials will be provided to attendees.
Attendance: Certificates of completion will be awarded to attendees who successfully complete the course in its entirety.
Release of Liability: All attendees, as a condition of the course attendance and participation, will be required to sign a liability release agreement with the Spokane Police Department Training Center. This form is included in this packet.
