Spokane Police Detectives arrested a 16 year old North Central High School male today for “threatening to bomb or injure property”. Spokane Police and Spokane School District Officials received several pieces of information about a student making threatening comments regarding an upcoming “school shooting”. The juvenile was arrested this morning, booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center and a search warrant was executed at his home to gather more information.
Several pieces of information led to today’s arrest. A few weeks ago, Spokane Police received a report of a conversation between students, making reference to a “Columbine style shooting” that was to occur at North Central High School. The students were not identified.
Additionally, last week Spokane Police responded to the Winco Foods on North Nevada to take a report of graffiti. The message in the graffiti referenced an upcoming school shooting to occur at North Central High School.
Both incidents were considered suspicious and SPD detectives followed up on leads to determine the validity of the threats. Working with school district officers, detectives determined a 16 year old male was responsible for making the threats and writing the graffiti. The juvenile was arrested by Major Crimes Detectives this morning at his home. He was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center for Threats to Bomb or Injure Property. A search warrant was executed at his home this afternoon to collect more information.
SPD takes threats of this nature very seriously and will investigate each threat in order to prevent school violence and keep the Spokane community safe.
