SPD Drug Raid Removed Two Endangered Children

Contact : Sgt. Jason Hartman Date : 4/19/2012
Incident #:

After receiving numerous complaints from neighbors and a three month investigation, the SPD Drug Unit and SWAT Team served a search warrant on a Browne's Addition home; arresting a 53 year old felon.  Two children were removed and placed in a safe house.  The man was arrested for Heroin Possession.

On April 18, 2012, around 5:30 pm, Spokane Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and the department’s SWAT Team executed a search warrant at 1600 W. Pacific.  Detectives determined heroin and methamphetamine were being sold out of the apartment.

When officers searched the apartment, they located a small amount of heroin.  William Reyes (53 years of age) was booked into jail for one felony count of Possession of a Controlled Substance—Heroin.

Two children, 8 and 12 years of age, were living in the apartment. Detectives with specialized training in working with Drug Endangered Children worked with Child Protective Services (CPS) to place the children in a safe environment.

The calls police received from citizens living in the neighborhood were a critical part of pursuing this investigation. The Spokane Police Department encourages anyone suspecting drug activity in their neighborhood to report it to Crime Check or the department’s Special Investigative Unit. This information is very valuable to the department.
