The Spokane Violent Crimes Gang Enforcement Team (SVCGET), working with SPD Major Crimes are investigating an early morning shooting that left one person seriously injured. The victim, an adult male adult, was shot on the lower south hill , flagged down SPD officers, and then was transported to a local hospital. After an extensive search, the shooter is still at large.
Shortly before 7am this morning, 911 received several calls of loud bangs or possible gun shots in the area of 6th Ave. and Oak St. on the lower south hill. Two officers were puling up to an unrelated call in the area of 13th Ave. and Cedar St. when a car pulled up and flagged them over. The driver alerted them her friend had been shot and was laying in the back seat of the car. The 35 year old male had a gunshot wound to his abdomen but was conscious and speaking prior to being transported to an area hospital.
Those officers secured the car and had it towed as evidence. Based on the 911 calls received, other patrol officers were able to find the crime scene in an alley to the south of the 1800 block of west 6th Ave. The found what they believed to be bullet holes in the walls of an apartment complex and forced entry into one of the units there to verify there were no suspects or victims in that apartment. Gang Enforcement Officers later executed a search warrant at that same apartment and were able to collect evidence from inside.
The investigation is ongoing. SVCGET asks that anyone with information about this incident call 625-GANG or go to www.stopspokanegangs.org to leave an anonymous tip.
