The Spokane Police Department is continuing its investigation into yesterday morning’s homicide at a site near South Riverton and Magnolia.
“This case is our top priority because of random nature of this vicious attack,” says interim Police Chief Scott Stephens. “We are doing everything we can to move this case toward resolution. ”
Among other things, SPD has dedicated significant resources to the case and has provided all officers with suspect description information. Detectives are seeking expedited results of DNA analysis and other forensic information, working closely with the WSP Crime Lab.
All law enforcement partners in the region have been notified. Washington’s Most Wanted program will include the information in a program over the weekend. And Crimestoppers is collecting information from the public. SPD has received numerous tips from the public, which are being analyzed and, in some cases, assigned for follow-up.
Citizens should share any information they think could help investigators by calling Crime Check at 800-222-TIPS, or submitting the information through the Crimestoppers web site http://www.crimestoppersinlandnorthwest.org.
Yesterday’s victim was attacked while walking her dog and ultimately died as a result of the stab wounds she sustained. The motive of this incident still has not been established, Detectives believe this was a random attack.
Spokane Police Detectives developed a suspect description based on details obtained from the victim as well as interviews with those living near the area of the attack. The suspected attacker is described as a black male in his early to mid 30s wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Neighbors said they had seen a man matching this description in the area recently.
