Three people were violently assaulted and robbed by the occupants of a passing vehicle last night near the Gonzaga University campus. Spokane Police Officers arrived on scene moments after the call for help, used GPS to locate the suspect vehicle, arrested the suspects, and retrieved all stolen items within thirty minutes of the robbery.
Details: This morning at 2am, two women and a man were walking in the area of Sinto and Standard when a Yukon SVU pulled up. Two female occupants assaulted one of the women walking by, grabbing her purse and violently knocking her to the ground. The female suspects took the victim’s purse, credit cards, passport, gift cards and iPhone. The suspects also stole a camera from the other female walker. The man who had been walking with the two female victims, tried to step in and help when two male suspects got out of the Yukon and severely assaulted the man, rendering him unconscious. All suspects quickly fled the scene leaving the male victim lying motionless on the ground.
Officers arrived on scene moments later and the victim activated an iPhone tracker application, which utilized a GPS system to locate the suspect’s Yukon at Sprague/Rebecca. Officers were able to stop the vehicle and gather enough evidence to arrest Tayone Akers (12/27/91), Anthony Walker (10/4/91), Ronald Scott (8/6/93) and two 16 year old females. All parties were charged with two counts of 1st Degree Robbery and one count of 2nd Degree Assault.
Officers were able to retrieve all of the victim's stolen belongings and return them to the victims. Medics treated the victims for their injuries. Gonzaga Security was advised of the incident.
