Spokane Police Arrest Stabbng Suspect

Contact : Sgt. Kevin King Date : 11/14/2012
Incident #: 12-372064

Spokane Police Officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1500 block of E. 1st.  Officers located a victim and were able to track down and arrest the suspect at a nearby residence.

On November 14th, 2012, at approximately 3:11 am, Spokane Police Department Officers responded to a report of a stabbing victim in the E. 1500 block of 1st.  Multiple people reported the stabbing victim, seeing two black males running from the scene, and a report of a gunshot.

Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, who had a non-life threatening stab wound to his ear.  As Officers were preparing to track the suspects with a K-9, they were approached by nearby residents who stated they witnessed the two black males enter a house in the 1600 block of Pacific.  These people also reported hearing a gunshot.

At this point, Spokane Police received a 911 call from an address in this block that a male inside was destroying the interior of the house.  The person described matched the description of the stabbing suspect.

Officers surrounded this house and called out the occupants. Three people came out and stated the stabbing suspect had recently just returned to the house along with another male and then began breaking items inside.  They stated the suspect was now passed out on a couch inside the residence and that there was also a handicapped female and a small child that were physically unable to leave the house.

Spokane Police Officers entered the house and arrested the suspect, David D. Stephens, a 27 year old male from Spokane.  Officers gathered evidence to arrest Stephens for First Degree Assault for the stabbing and for Malicious Mischief Domestic Violence for the damage inside the house.

At this point, Officers do not have enough evidence to charge the other male with Stephens at the stabbing.  From all the evidence gathered by Officers, the report of the gunshot appears to be unrelated to this event.  Stephens was booked into the Spokane County Jail on his charges.
